We are planning a reception for about 20 people. We have no idea what it should look like.
The reception can have two forms: shorter (about 2-4 hours) with only dinner served, or longer (about 5-8 hours) with hot and cold snacks served after dinner. It can be even longer, making it a reception without dancing. In this situation it is good to prepare some hot dish for the late evening or, if the reception place has a garden, a grill buffet.

The banquet starts with the traditional welcoming the Newly-weds with bread and salt or, if this is to be skipped, with a toast to the Newly-weds initiated by for example the Best Man or one of the Fathers (usually the Bride’s Father).

When everybody is at their tables the appetizer and dinner are served, and thereafter a climaxing desert – usually the wedding cake. Now there is time for the speeches and toasts, and afterwards for thanks to the Parents.
The shortest, “condensed” version ends at this moment.

In the longer version, after dinner and desert there is time for the snacks. Cutting the wedding cake and thanks to the Parents can happen later, in any chosen moment.

Musical accompaniment is an elegant and worth to consider accent for the duration of the banquet. String quartet, piano or harp will be a very attractive background.

As for alcohols, mainly champagne and wines are served during the reception. Though the final choice of assortment depends on the Bridal Couple’s and their guests’ liking, so nothing stands in the way of putting some stronger alcohols on the tables.
