I would like to know what should be the order of bridesmaids, groomsmen and the Groom in the wedding procession – I will be led by my father. Should the bridesmaids wait at the altar with the Groom or should they walk in front of me? |
Traditionally the strict order would be as follows: mother, grandparents, siblings and farther family of the Bride, parents of the flower girls and veil girls. Next grandparents, siblings and relatives of the Groom and parents of the ring boy. At the end – the Groom accompanied by his parents. When the priest gives the sign for the ceremony to start and the opening music is played, the flower girls enter the church, and right after them the Bride led by her father.
As for building the wedding procession and the bridesmaids’ place, nowadays we can follow our own ideas and imaginations. The scenario can take one of the three forms: when the guests enter the church the Groom is awaiting at the altar accompanied by the groomsmen (they give him support and courage for the upcoming event). The bridesmaids:
- are also awaiting at the altar or
- precede the Bride led by her father or
- follow the Bride and her father a few steps behind.
It is good to have the same number of bridesmaids and groomsmen so they can arrange in pairs. Theoretically the number of pairs should be odd. |
